The Next Epidemic in Puerto Rico Diabetes in the Puerto Rican population is estimated in almost 20% with an additional 30% of pre-diabetics in the baby boomer population. Even children are more prevalent to diabetes than in the past 10 years. Furthermore, metabolic syndrome is becoming a common disease in younger and middle age population increasing the probability to develop nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.
